The New York Knicks have made some late deals just before the trading deadline to try to bolster their slumping fortunes. Since they traded Jamal Crawford some 3 months ago, they have been looking for a guard who they felt could fit into their system.

They found him in Larry Hughes, who wanted out of Chicago any way possible. Hughes has been discontent with the Bulls since Kirk Hinrich’s return to the team. The moody Hughes has had zero playing time since mid-January and the Bulls have made it quite clear to him that he would not be playing.

Hughes watched a recent Bulls home game from the club restaurant. He has been hard for the Bulls to deal because of his hefty price tag of $12.8 million this year and $13.7 million next season.

The Knicks didn’t balk as they are dealing only for players with contracts expiring by 2010. The Knicks, it seems, plan on entering the 2010 bidding wars when LeBron James becomes a free agent.

Continue reading "Knicks Trade with Bulls Thunder"

With his team's season rapidly falling apart, Bryan Colangelo has some difficult decisions ahead.

He is less than three years removed from his triumphant first season as Raptors' GM, handpicked by ownership to bring a new era of success to Toronto as he had done in Phoenix.

Colangelo won the 2005 NBA Executive of the Year award, and wasted no time in putting his stamp on the Raptors; his unorthodox approach to scouting and drafting led to Toronto fielding one of the most multi-national teams in the NBA.

After winning the Atlantic Division in 2007 Colangelo won his second Executive of the Year award. Given the team's poor performance with a roster that was expected to be very successful, with good NBA odds to make the playoffs, perhaps Colangelo should trade the player he is working to keep: Chris Bosh.

Continue reading "Time for the Unthinkable"
