Tomas Kaberle

br />The Boston Bruins officially announced on Friday morning that the club has acquired defenseman Tomas Kaberle from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for prospect center Joe Colborne, the Bruins first-round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional second-round pick. Toronto takes control of the Bruins own second round pick in 2012 if the Bruins can reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011 or if they re-sign Kaberle this summer (Kaberle is an unrestricted free-agent at the end of the season).

tween he and his American comrade Jeremy Roenick may be what NBC is looking for anyway.
-Tomas Kaberle will not be moved immediately. If Burke is as smart as people say he is, he will wait for training camp to get closer and see what offers he gets throughout the summer. Kaberle is a great addition to any roster, especially those in need of a steady veteran defenseman. Look for him to trade Kaberle to the West; he may have learned his lesson after his deal with the Bruins last year. I expect to see Anaheim make a big run for the offensive defenseman; with Visnovsky now being their number one guy after a Scott Niedermayer retirement, they could use the help.

ne a poor job of maintaining a solid blue line core at a reasonable value. Between defensemen Tomas Kaberle, Jeff Finger, Mike Komisarek, Francois Beauchemin, Luke Schenn and now Phaneuf, the annual salary spent on the team's top six defenseman is $25.53 million. With the NHL salary cap at $56.8 million, these six players make up about 45% of what the NHL allows payrolls to be. This leaves little room for bringing in an all-star caliber player on offense to assist winger Phil Kessel in the goal-scoring department, and also makes it difficult to fill the gaps that the team needs in order to roll four strong lines. If Burke can unload a few of these defensemen via trades or buy-outs, Phaneuf will have better offensive players to feed the puck to.

tors, Columbus Blue Jackets and Buffalo Sabres will find themselves in a bidding war for defenseman Tomas Kaberle of the Toronto Maple Leafs up until the waning minutes of the deadline. Brian Burke may decide to hold onto him after all, since he still has two years remaining on his contract and could be beneficial in the development of Luke Schenn.
