But the Kings cannot be discussed without bringing up starting goaltender Jonathan Quick.  The young American-born goalie is currently tied for second in the NHL in goaltender wins with 17 and is currently outplaying the projected starter for Team USA, Boston Bruins' goalie Tim Thomas.  This may stir up some controversy as the Olympics are getting closer by the day.

One of the few bright spots for the Avalanche offense last season was veteran Ryan Smyth.  The veteran forward scored just 26 times, but was a lift to the team throughout the season.  Trade talks surrounded Smyth throughout the entire last half of the season, but the Avalanche remained loyal to the hard-working checker until recently.

-    Ryan Smyth will stay put in Colorado.  He has already stated he does not want to waive his no-trade clause.

-    It has already been announced on TSN.ca that Nik Antropov and Dominic Moore will sit tonight’s game against the New Jersey Devils.  Dominic Moore will be shopped, but GM Brian Burke will not find any deals that please him.  Antropov will be dealt to a Western Conference team, possibly the Edmonton Oilers or the Minnesota Wild, who are both still battling for their playoff lives.
