The NHL may be the greatest hockey league in the world, but it may not have the best system for dealing with disciplinary action. It seems that they could learn from leagues that play under them. Way way under them.

Did you see that crazy backhand goal by Michael Del Zotto of the Rangers that snuck its way through Boston's Tim Thomas a few weeks ago? Of course you did, it was the only afternoon game on that Saturday.

Marian Hossa watched as NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman handed the Stanley Cup off to Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sydney Crosby Friday night from the Detroit locker room. Just one year ago, Hossa watched from the Pittsburgh locker room as Bettman handed the Cup to Red Wings' captain Nicklas Lidstrom. To Pittsburgh fans, this was the sweet irony that they had wanted since Hossa rejected an offer from Penguins' management last summer to play with the Red Wings. To Red Wings fans, it was all about the anger of Hossa's poor effort and lack of goal scoring in the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals.

Well, you got what you wanted Gary Bettman; your top team is facing your boy in the spotlight. Everything this season has led up to this great moment; the top plays on ESPN, the featured stories on NHL.com and most importantly, the reminiscing of the last Stanley Cup Final in 2008. Players and coaches have already begun talks of how exciting the series will be.

p; Yes, very much so. Nothing was able to happen though because hours later, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman suspended Avery until further notice to review the situation, taking him out of the lineup that night.
