The Columbus Blue Jackets had an intense season in 2008-09. After starting with rookie Derick Brassard scorching the ice for the first 31 games, he would fall to a season-ending shoulder injury. But the Blue Jackets just kept winning with the likes of hot rookie goaltender Steve Mason and top point-getter Rick Nash leading the way. Finishing seventh in the Western Conference, the Jackets can only get better with Brassard coming back for training camp.

The brightest spot of the Blues’ offense has to be David Perron. With a plus-16 rating last season, the returning speedster has worked on his skating and has packed on a few pounds. He will play more this season than last, and the fans cannot be more excited to see what this young man will bring forth in this campaign.

When the Blues selected forward David Perron at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, many heads were turned towards Blues management. The QMJHL’s Lewiston MAINEiacs head coach Clem Jodoin, David’s coach before being drafted, even had some discouraging words when asked of Perron’s abilities. He claimed that he was not very good in his own end and that he “needs to improve on his skating.” But the Blues found something in the young player, and drafted him late in the first round, 26th overall.
