ce 2007?  The Ducks were the most feared defensive team, sending out the likes of Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Francois Beauchemin and Sean O’Donnell.

After the Ducks’ Stanley Cup victory over the Senators, Niedermayer, along with aging teammate Teemu Selanne, both expressed interest in retirement.  After all, Niedermayer’s victory was his fourth Stanley Cup and he had already proven himself on an International level.  So what was left to prove?

and a 17-goal scorer would be the top story heading into the Stanley Cup Finals?

Chris Pronger has made a living of punishing people when they decide to stand in front of his goaltender.  The 35-year old defenseman has amassed 18 penalty minutes thus far in the 2010 playoffs, including many cross-checking and interference calls while clearing out the front of his net.  But he does not seem to ever give it a rest.  Does Pronger seem to get terrified by the mere thought of Byfuglien standing in front with him?  He seemed to downplay the thought when he was asked if the media is blowing the Byfuglien – Pronger battle out of proportion.

ould never move him?

Many hockey writers and analysts suggested at the 2009 trade deadline that Chris Pronger was being shopped by the Anaheim Ducks and the top destination for the gritty defenseman was where he used to call home, St. Louis, Missouri. Reportedly, talks for the deal were halted when Ducks' GM Bob Murray asked for Oshie in the deal. Andy Strickland of HockeyBuzz.com wrote this piece shortly after the deadline:

lues media kept fans on the edge of their seats early this summer when there were constant talks of Chris Pronger returning to the blue and gold.  Those discussions came to a crashing halt on the first day of the NHL Entry Draft when he was shipped from Anaheim to Philadelphia in the first blockbuster deal of the summer.  Draft day was still exciting for the Blues though, when they selected defenseman David Rundblad at 17th overall in the first round.  Rundblad is known for his smooth skating ability and offensive instincts, but worries some scouts with his defensive lapses at times.  The Swedish defenseman reminds many scouts, including the Blues' Director of Amateur Scouting Jarmo Kekalainen, of Mike Green from Washington.  It will take a few seasons to see that progression though.

It was no shock to the city of Anaheim when all-star defenseman Chris Pronger was traded on NHL draft day.  The real shock may come during the 2009-10 season when the Ducks still put out a strong defensive lineup on opening day.

It was reported Friday that Chris Pronger found a new home in the town of Los Angeles.  The unconfirmed reports said that Pronger was sent to the Kings for up-and-coming defenseman Jack Johnson and a fifth-round pick.  The LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks quickly shot down the report.  Kings GM Dean Lombardi was asked via e-mail, and he quickly responded with the simplest of replies:  “No.”

ntry Draft, they thought that they were getting something special.  With Al MacInnis aging and Chris Pronger making All-Star caliber paychecks, the team knew that a young guy had to be brought in to step in and take charge.  Jackman had a great season with the Regina Pats of the WHL in 2000-01, and continued that strong play in St. Louis the following season.  After winning the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year that season, the future was looking bright for the tough defenseman.  But things can go sour as quickly as they get sweet.

With the NHL Trade Deadline looming, teams are preparing for a tough day of decisions on how to better themselves for the playoffs, or for the future.

Here is a list of things I believe to happen (or to not happen) by Wednesday, March 4th at 3 p.m. EST.

can land a Chris Pronger from Anaheim or a Jay Bouwmeester from the Panthers and lock them up for a few seasons, this deal may be worth looking at.  But if they plan on getting someone to help with this season alone, trading a player and hurting the rising chemistry on this roster may not be a smart move for the coming seasons.

When the Hartford Whalers drafted Chris Pronger second overall in 1993, they had no idea what type of player that they would be getting on their roster.  The Blues are hoping that they drafted a player fifteen years later that might have the same upside as the All-Star defenseman.
